The route is part of Trans-European Corridor No IV in the section Sofia - Kulata - Thessaloniki, as well as part of priority project 7 of the EU for the development of the Trans-European Transport Network, including motorway axis Igoumenitsa/Patras-Athens-Sofia-Bucharest. The section of the highway included in Lot 3.1 from Blagoevgrad to Krupnik, from km 359+000 to km 376+000, is 12,500 m long and for the most part the route is located near the Struma River.  The motorway has a width of 29 m, and the section includes 16 number of structures with a total length of 1,760 m.
