Road I-8 in the section from the Kalotina border crossing to the city of Sofia is part of the main trans-European transport network on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. The modernized section is part of an important connection that ensures traffic between two large border points - the Kalotina checkpoint on the Serbian border and the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Turkish border. The following facilities have been constructed: 4 road junctions, several bridge structures, embankments, concrete walls, collector systems, anti-noise barriers, reconstruction of utilities.
The existing situation of the railway has been restored after the completion of the railway overpass over road I-8. The section is part of Main Railway Line No. 1 Kalotina - Sofia - Plovdiv - Svilengrad - borders with Turkey and Greece between Dragoman and Kalotina train stations.
